BrightSky Australian Pro Adaptive Surfing Championships set to take over Byron Bay this March

  • Industry News

Australia’s leading adaptive surfers will return to Byron Bay from 22–29 March 2026 for the BrightSky Australian Pro Adaptive Surf Championships, presented by Forward Ability Support. The eight-day event will transform one of Australia’s most iconic coastlines into a hub of elite competition, community engagement and inclusive ocean access.

Firmly established as the nation’s premier adaptive surfing event, the Championships attract top Australian and international athletes, with growing recognition from sporting bodies, media and fans. The 2026 edition will again feature world-class adaptive surfers, including Australian pioneer and multiple world champion Mark “Mono” Stewart and exciting next-generation talent Kai Colless.

With a flexible, athlete-first mobile beach format and daily live webcast from 25–29 March, the Championships showcase adaptive surfing as a high-performance, globally relevant sport on the road to Brisbane 2032. Community remains at the heart of the event, with free, fully supported Come & Try sessions providing safe and inclusive ocean experiences for people of all abilities.
