Boccia Australia Launches New National Coach Pathway

Boccia Australia has announced the development of a new National Coach Pathway, with the first education programs and learning opportunities set to roll out between August and November 2026.
Designed to support coaches at every stage of their journey, the pathway offers accessible, flexible, and nationally consistent learning opportunities. It combines online education, practical workshops, and ongoing professional development to help coaches build their skills and confidence.
The pathway has been developed over the past 12 months through a collaborative project led by Coach Developer Michelle Hemley, in partnership with Boccia Australia’s coaching, performance, and pathway teams, along with Sport Development Officers from across the country.
A key feature of the new pathway is a clearly defined capability framework, outlining the knowledge, skills, and behaviours expected at each stage of coaching. This provides a transparent progression from community-level coaching through to high performance.
As part of this initiative, Boccia Australia has secured an Australian Institute of Sport High Performance Paralympic Coach Development Organisation Grant to support the creation of the new Coach Passport. Developed in partnership with the Australian Sport Learning Centre, this online platform will give coaches access to learning modules, resources, and ongoing development opportunities.
The new Coach Pathway includes five levels:
Boccia Australia School Coach – Online school resources and a one-hour “Boccia Ticket to Teach” workshop (Terms 3–4, 2026)
Boccia Australia Community Coach – Online modules and practical activities (August 2026)
Boccia Australia Development Coach – Online modules and practical workshops (August 2026)
Boccia Australia Talent Pathway Coach – Online learning, practical development opportunities, and assessment tasks (November 2026)
Boccia Australia High Performance Coach – Advanced online learning, practical development opportunities, and assessment tasks (November 2026)
Further information, including registration details and pilot opportunities, will be released in the coming months as each stage of the Coach Pathway is launched.
