Sport Inclusion Australia Strengthens Regional Inclusion Through ASEAN-Australia Grant

  • Members News

Sport Inclusion Australia has been awarded funding through the ASEAN-Australia Centre Grants Program to deliver its international EmpowerHER Through Sport project—an initiative aimed at strengthening inclusion and connection across Australia and Southeast Asia.

As one of nine organisations selected nationally, Sport Inclusion Australia will lead a project that brings together sporting organisations, leaders and communities to share knowledge and experiences around inclusive sport, with a strong focus on women and girls with disability.

Globally, women and girls with disability continue to face significant barriers to participation, including limited access, social stigma and fewer leadership opportunities. This project aims to address these challenges by using sport as a platform to build confidence, foster belonging and create pathways for leadership.

Sport Inclusion Australia CEO Chantel Lewis highlighted the broader impact of the initiative, noting the importance of collaboration across the region to strengthen inclusive practices and opportunities.

The project will be led by International Engagement Advisor Robyn Smith OAM, whose extensive experience in both Australian and international sport will support meaningful knowledge exchange and long-term impact.

This initiative reflects the growing importance of international collaboration in advancing inclusion in sport and creating more equitable opportunities for people with disability.
