ASAPD founding member Sport Inclusion Australia has announced 52 athletes selected to represent Australia in athletics and swimming at the 2027 Virtus Asia Oceania Games in Bangkok, Thailand, from 24 February to 3 March.

The team includes 33 athletics and 19 swimming representatives from every Australian state and territory, bringing together experienced international competitors and 15 athletes making their Australian debuts.

Among those selected are Rio 2016 Paralympian Joshua Alford, Commonwealth Games representative Lindsey Hendy and several Virtus world record holders. First-time Australian representatives Indyana Wedderburn and Iesha Apthorpe will also head to Bangkok as world record holders in their respective events.

The Games provide an opportunity for athletes with an intellectual impairment to compete against leading athletes from across Asia and Oceania and build their international experience.

Further Australian team selections are expected in badminton, taekwondo and table tennis.

ASAPD congratulates all selected athletes and wishes them well as they prepare for Bangkok.
